TOTAL 2000 marks
Note: - In a preliminary examination one optional subject to be selected and for main examination two subjects has to be select as optional. However any optional subject can be selected from the U.P.S.C. subject list. In U.P.S.C. there is no condition that one has to select an optional subject of the graduation level. It means you can select any optional subject. You can seek The help from our website.Regarding How to choose optional subject
(b) Interview: - 300 marks (usually held by the UPSC In March & April)
After qualifying the main examination one has to face an interview. In the interview, there is a test of your personality
Interview board expects the following things from you
Γ Leadership qualities
Γ Persons who are above politics, religion, castes etc
Γ Crisis management technique
Γ Honesty
How to get post: - There is only one examination for all the posts and you have to give priorities for the posts however posts are given on the basis of total marks in mains examination & interview. And then cadre will be decided. Mostly selection depends on good contribution of marks in mains so, while preparing for prelims its not wise to Ignore mains or just focus on prelims. As "Main Exams" is meant to be "Main Exams".
When to Start ?
This has no rigid answer. If we take a close look at the sucessful candidates, some among them are early starters, who started the preparation from the beginning of the graduation itself, some of them started their preparation just one year before the prelims, and still a few are there who didnt even conceive the idea of writing prelims, just before 6 months of it, and yet they are successful in this exam. It all depends on how much strong you are in your basic studies (i.e. primary education) and your first optional. If you have the sound basics and still have the natural penchant for day to day events, if your eyes and ears intent enough to get every information that is relevant, if you are never tired in the process of learning new things, you are the type of candidate that U.P.S.C. is looking for, you can cultivate them if you have strong passion for this exam, but it requires time. Starting preparation at least 1 year before the prelims is quite sufficient and ideal.
